Problems
Skin Cancer
- 1 in every 3 cancers diagnosed worldwide is skin cancer, approximately 90% of skin cancers are due to exposure to UV radiation.
- On average 8,000 Canadians will be diagnosed with melanoma skin cancer, the deadliest form, and 1,300 will die from it.
- Around 35% of adult Canadians report sunburn each year. Increased sunburn incidents can heighten the risk of skin cancer.
Fair-skinned individuals are at high risk for skin cancer as they have less melanin in their skin to protect them from the sun’s damaging UV rays. - Persons of color are more likely to die of skin cancer due to a late diagnosis. This is because pigmented skin do not show visible signs of sun damage as readily.
Marine Life
- Roughly, 5000 tons of sunscreen end up in the ocean yearly, leading to the devastation of coral reefs and other marine life.
- The chemical components of sunscreens are Butylparaben, Methylbenzyl, Octinoxate, and Oxybenzone, etc.
Harmful Chemicals
- All harmful chemicals in sunscreens are absorbed into the body.
- For instance, oxybenzone is a potential endocrine disruptor, changes hormone levels in men, and causes allergic skin reactions.
- Even TiO2 and ZnO, which are less harmful, can penetrate the skin, and convert to compounds that pose a cancer risk when exposed to the UV energy.
UVA and UVB
- Over 60% of sunscreens on the market do not offer adequate sun protection.
- Sunscreens should have broad protection against both UVA and UVB.
- The FDA stated that too much emphasis has been placed on UVB.
- However, UVA can cause damage at deeper layers of the skin, and because it’s about 30 to 50 times more prevalent than UVB.

Mrs. Onyeka will work alongside Oryx CosmiTech’s Executive Team to ensure that all short-and-long-term objectives are met as per the Canadian market.
Chukwuemeka Obi
COO
He is a recognized and accomplished entrepreneur with more than 26 years of expertise. He had worked as Co-founder, Chief Operations Officer, and CEO. Mr. Obi observed the increasing demand for organic and eco-friendly health care products, especially in the sun care and protection industry; consequently, compelling him to join Oryx CosmiTech. As Chief Operating Officer, He will make sure that Oryx CosmiTech keeps growing and surpassing its short and long-term KPIs in the Canadian market with his self-starter attitude, strong ability, and all-around experience in providing strategic leadership and monitoring operational activities.
Deborah Odo-Effimi
CFO
She is a well-established businesswoman with over 17 years of experience and in-depth knowledge in the finance industry, with a special focus in financial regulations, accounting processes, and preparing financial statements. She had worked as Account Officer, Assistant Manager, Relationship Manager, Group Manager, Regional Head and Compliance Manager. As Chief Financial Officer of Oryx CosmiTech, Mrs. Odo-Effimi’s strong educational background and solid understanding in corporate and international finance will support Oryx CosmiTech in its transition into the Canadian market.

She is a self-motivated and transformational leader with over 22 years of experience in providing leadership in marketing and sales strategies. She had worked as Executive Director in Marketing and Human Resource Management. Mrs. Iwuchuku transferred her invaluable experience and track record for top-line results into her new role as Chief Marketing Officer for Oryx CosmiTech. Mrs. Iwuchuku’s strong abilities in executing outstanding marketing campaigns to raise brand awareness, recognition, and loyalty will significantly contribute to Oryx ComiTech’s success in Canadian market.
